“True happiness represents the great dilemma, if not for everyone,
then at least for the wisest.”
Pierre Zaoui

Joie de vivre is a choreographic concept that draws on the plant world to explore the dialogue between space and behavior, between the world and the visible form of our intentions.

Joie de vivre is the vital impulse that informs all emerging behavior. It is the organic propulsion that traverses and shapes anatomical attitudes and environmental responses in the experience of oneself, others, the territory, and one’s habitat.

Joie de vivre therefore addresses this biological dimension of being, the inexhaustible questioning of being among things, of belonging to a time and a place. And it does all this by looking at the plant world to grasp its arborescent and rhizomatic attitudes, changes of state incorporated into a logic of surprising transformations, tactical abilities, mobility of boundaries, and assemblages of transitory communities.

Joie de vivre is non-teleological plant intelligence. There is no plan, direction, or purpose, no goal to strive for; only ‘making space’, tracing a territory where things happen and the unexpected is welcomed as an epiphany, a revelation.

Joie de vivre refers to a natural inclination of entities, emerging behaviors, and polyphonic relationships between events and elements. In these borderline territories, landings are not uniform, and singularities burst into the dynamic continuum of the environment to preserve the elementary urgency of their existence.

Joie de vivre favors variation in scale, in which rhythmic variables mark and orient the choreographic composition in gestures whose vegetal origin is sought in the depths of the bodies, in the infinite spatializations of anatomy.
